  • Roosevelt Inlet Sat 5-26-12

Remind me not to go to popular places like this on 3-day weekends. The car parking lot was full. About 70% of the trailer lots were full. The inlet was busy. Boats and touring yaks everywhere. Many boats zoomed through the inlet making big waves. Large boats plowed the waterway with big wakes too. There was a waiting line for boats to come back in on the ramps.

Ok, it was a nice sunny day. Warm. Light breeze. Fairly calm waters. Was on the water at 0815 hrs.

My target was flounder, and I caught a short flounder (17") and a toad. No keeper flatties. In fact, I talked to several boaters, and many of them caught shorts with no keepers. A lot of boaters were going after specks, and they did well.

Surprising thing was my short flounder was caught on frozen shrimp on a tandem rig with squid and shrimp (both hooks also tipped with 2" Gulp sandworms).

I heard they are good eating. One of these day I'm going to bring a couple home and try it.
