  • Pohick Pike Success

First snakehead hunt of the year was a success.

Caught 3 other bass in the 3lb range while doing so.

Everything caught on a white chatterbait in 1-2ft of water next to spatterdock 1/2 mile back in the main pohick feeder creek - way past where the bass boats could reach.

I watched the snakehead hit my bait in 2ft of crystal clear water 5 ft from the nose of my kayak...once the snakehead knew it was hooked it torpedoed out of the water about 3ft, my heart definitely skipped a beat.

Snakehead in picture measured 27" and was roughly 5-6lbs

Thanks for the compliments guys - It was a wicked fight that lead to that picture.

Definitely love the back parts of Pohick.

Mango - Didn't eat this one - I'm waiting to catch a younger/smaller one to make for dinner.... fed this one to an osprey.

jsnyd86 - congrats on your fish as well. I'm looking forward to fishing Leesylvania.

FYI - see picture attached - these little fish were spawning like crazy.. making so much noise that you could hear them "bubbling on the shore in 1/4" of water.. and then every 5 minutes you would hear a WHOOOOSH .... The snakehead I caught coughed up a dozen of these

                          Some sort of baby killifish?

Haha..That's what I thought at first, total invasion.. hundreds of thousands of these things back in that creek

I think its some species of killifish.. I do know one thing - if you match the hatch right now in the back part of pohick creek you're bound for some decent fish
