  • Looking for a different plugging rod

I'm looking for an 8ft 1 piece plugging rod for back bay/light ocean use. I have a 2 piece 8 ft and a 2 piece 7ft (penn something and an airwave) and I don't like how the top part of the rod spins sometimes when casting a heavy plug.

Anyone have any recommendations? Also, anyone interested in a plugging combo?

Not sure what your budget is but I use an 8' St Croix Tidemaster rated 3/4 - 3. I use this rod strictly for fishing IRI and OC inlet.

I like the 1-piece design for the reasons you mentioned. Also, it's a very lightweight rod which is nice when you're making alot of casts with sometimes 2 - 3oz jigs/plugs.

I've got it paired up with a Abu Revo Winch 60 casting reel since this setup doesn't get too wet when I'm on the rocks.

They make a Mojo surf 1-piece as well in 8'. I own several other Mojos and like them as well.

Nice. The 8footer can throw up to 3oz. That's a lot! Good surf stick, no doubt. The Premier goes up to 2oz. That looks nice, too.

If you find a rod in this class that you like and, are comfortable tossing for an entire tide it will last you a long time. Lamiglas make some of the best but you'll pay 2x more than a St. Croix.

Anyone know of a place around here that carries them?

John, exactly what I was thinking!
