  • Kayak Lights

Was wondering if anyone has or is using spreader or deck lights on their kayaks for night fishing. Ive been playing around with the idea to mount one on my bow for night fishing and to make it easier to see fishing lines when comming back in to the pier. Any thoughts.

I feel like one of those rechargeable spotlights might be a better option. They are super bright and you could probably mount the handle on a scotty or homemade pvc mount. That way it's temporary.

If you're making a visipole, I recommend this light- http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...o_Spotter.html

      Here's another option:

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljEflwcH01E

The pre-owned kayak I purchased had a Scotty mount in the stern so I made a cheap VISIPole with 1/2" PCV pipe, an American flag, Taylor made flag clips, high-vis reflective tape and a Scotty MINI Rod Holder Height Extender. The 1/2" PVC fit perfectly. I glued the PVC pipe to the mini rod holder with aquarium silicon. This is fairly sturdy but can be disassembled easily.

I haven't added the light that's in the video yet. Seems the only store that carries them is Target and my local store doesn't have them. Amazon does but shipping charges are more than the product! I never do that. Will check on the dive lights mentioned. Thanks!

i have a stern light and use a headlamp for night fishing. During this winter, i was thinking installing some flushmount lights and running them to the battery but never got a chance in doing so. I've never seen it done, i think it would be cool.

              Thanks!

That works. Thanks. Nice set up. Some good ideas for sure. I agree with some posters that once your eyes adjust to the dark you only need a light to tie a knot, unhook a fish, change lures, etc. Learned that long ago during my manic surf fishing days...

Im thinking about doing it to mine also, flip a switch and light, another flip its off. I think its better then a head lamp for them long trips, but ill still take the head lamp.

                            Navisafe lights

HEAD LAMPS WOULD BE A FIRST CHOICE. HOWEVER, THERE ARE A VARIETY OF LED LIGHTS THAT ONE COULD MOUNT IN A KAYAK WITH LITTLE POWER DRAW. THEY MAKE COURTESY TYPE LIGHTS FOR MOUNTING JUST ABOUT ANYWHERE. TAKE A LOOK IN THE ELECTRICAL ISLE AT WEST MARINE.

NRS CARRIES A NEAT LITTLE DISK LIGHT. IT COMES IN ALL AROUND WHITE OR GREEN/RED/WHITE, WITH A MULTI POSITION SWITCH. IT HAS A MAGNETIC DISK THAT ENABLES THE KAYAKER TO ATTACH THE LIGHT ANYWHERE BY PLACING THE MAGNETIC PART UNDER THE DECK OR A HATCH AND THE LIGHT ABOVE, THUS MOUNTING BY THE MAGNET. IT IS WATERPROOF AND IT FLAOTS. I HAVE ONE THAT I USE FOR NIGHT FISHING. FOR MY STERN LIGHT I USE A YAKATTACK POLE. THE ALL WHITE WOULD THROW LIGHT ALL AROUND THE KAYAK. IT IS ALL LED AND WORKS ON AAA BATTERIES.

THE DISK LIGHT IS AT NRS, http://http://www.nrsweb.com/shop/pr..._RedGreen-2776
