  • California Sheephead

Went home for the holidays and managed to get the yaks on the water. Caught some nice sized Sheephead and lots of rockfish but no yelllowtail. Largest Sheephead was 13lbs.

Thanks guys. We were using fresh squid that we had caught earlier that morning. It's just like fishing for Tog in that you find a good rock pile, drop your squid, and wait. These are definitely the hardest fighting fish I've landed on a yak. The big one was pulling out line on a Penn Fathom 25 with the drag locked down.

                  Nice looking fish.

Matt - These are probably new entries for the leaderboard.

Do we want to keep it to Delmarva species?

Matt, I wouldn't add them to the board since it's a West Coast species. Now if it was a Yellowfin or Yellowtail then we could add it. lol.

I always love seeing those at aquariums. They have some gnarly dentures and get huge. I bet they fought like H@ll. Thanks for the report and good job on the catch.

Do they taste like the east coast Sheepies?

Awesome Fish! Those sure are a lot more colorful than our eastcoast convict Sheepshead...
