  • Drifter Crate

    I think there are some drifter riders out there, not sure if you've seen this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WE02u...eature=related.

    I think Kayak Kevin still rides a drifter... I know he is sponsored by OK, you'd think they'd give him a newer ride?

    No, I hadn't run across that yet. And I've trying to find ideas on how to rig my Drifter. That looks real good. I like it. Thanks!

      No problem John, I was going to just send it to you, but figured there may be some other guys on here that might want to see how he did it. The padeye+rod looks like you'll have the added benefit of not having to worry about water getting in your tackle through the scupper holes.

            the deckloops and the rods are for my prowler and works for wells that are wider than the drifters, which is all of them after the drifter.

            i now have to ziptie all my crates down to the deck so they will hold the weight of the cameras on ziptied tripods.
            here is the drifter crate ziptie corner;

            all of our crates are so sucure that we can pick up the kayaks with the crates.

            my drifter is like an old comfertable shoe, ive been useing the same one for three years. ive got a brand new one i won in the tkaa tourny a few years ago. i dont get kayaks for free, and cant aford to get a new OK when i have the drifter that is good for at least another year for sight casting short distance, and a prowler 15 for distance.
            i do want to get a trident 13 because its as stable as the drifter and tracks like a long boat. best of both worlds

              Awesome shots of the crate Kevin, I am definitely going to use that idea for my Trident 13. I was already looking at getting a wider crate to better fit the tankwell area, but this looks like a much better method. I'll probably have to use pins instead of zip ties because I have to transport mine upside down on the roof.

              Thanks for sharing the information with us! Your site/dvd is a big motivator to us other Chesapeake anglers!

                Kevin,

                Thanks for the pics and additional details on your crate set up. Nice work!

                BTW, you might be familiar with the Drifter in question. Toast put his name on it with a sharpie! It's faded but still visible. I got it from Keith via www.wkfa.org back in February. Very stable craft. I was tempted to go for a Trident but Keith had this one with a paddle, PFD and FF ready to go.

                Safe paddling!

                  the zip ties are just for the stability of the 5lb cameras. if the rods are lined up right the crate fits right on the edge on the crate. on strap will keep in on tight enough. in the pics of the prowler i dont have the zipties, it was before we started filming.
                  the drifter is a great boat, shante, lee, and i love it. it is the most adgile kayak because of its rocker, the newer kayaks are getting away from that like the trident 13, more keel in the water tracks better. but you cant spin the trident like the drifter. you can spin that thing on its axis right below your butt.
