  • Striped Bass Spawning Grounds - DE

In anticipation of the M&G at CHSP I've been looking at regulations and bought my license, but I had a question I couldn't quite figure out. Striped bass season is year round except for the spawning grounds during April and May. Is Delaware Bay part of the spawning grounds and is CHSP considered part of the bay? I tried looking on their site and was going to play it safe and not keep any because I couldn't tell for certain, but then I found this last sentence.

"The spawning season closure and slot limits do not apply to Delaware’s coastal waters, Indian River Inlet or the Inland Bays, where the minimum size limit remains 28 inches year-round, with a two-fish possession limit."

    Any guidance is appreciated.

CHSP is not part of the spawning grounds. Spawning grounds are on the Nanticoke, DE River, C&D canal, and their respective tributaries. Parts of CHSP are on DE Bay and parts are on the ocean, but I believe most kayakers probably stay in the bay.

On nice days we were able to kayak around the point down the drive on beaches. But when the tides start to turn the point can get pretty choppy.

That link is a little confusing.

This is a little more straight forward.
        General regs

        Spawning regs spelled out better
        http://www.eregulations.com/delaware...g-regulations/

There is a slot limit that is 28"-37" and then over 44" in effect right now and closed above the C&D canal and Nanticoke.

I went striper fishing for my first time last Sunday and got a 40" one so that was outside the slot. I would have released it anyway but I felt a little bad as it swallowed my circle hook. If there was one to keep it would have been the one that swallowed the hook.
