  • Pt Lookout - 6/4 Sat

Launched out of the Marina and went right out to Cornfield Harbor about 1 pm, which was about slack tide time. As I was going out, I saw mmanolis and his friend coming in. I chatted with them for a bit, and they showed me stringer full of croakers. I think he said the largest was 18". He also said he jigged some plastic shad.

Saw a couple of fishing kayaks in the harbor. There were a couple of swimmers with kayak escorts too. I think it was some kind of swimming tournament. Couple of fishing boats here and there. Lots of people on the beach.

I jigged for about an hour or so with bucktail and stingsilver. Nothing, so I switched to bws. Ended up catching 15 croakers ranging from 13" to 15" and released them all. I met a fellow kayaker, Jim, on his yellow Hobie. Using bws and squid, he must have caught over two dozen because he released a lot of small ones (13" or so) and ended up taking home about a dozen on his stringer. We caught them at the lighted platform several hundred yards south of the point as well as north of the platform during our drift.

The wx was great. Sunshine. Very calm waters. 70s. It got a bit overcast with some small waves late in the afternoon. It was a great day for kayaking. Man, we had too much fun.

Sounds like an awesome trip. I hit Buzz's in the afternoon and saw lots of kayaks on cars coming from the the PLO area and was wondering if they were anyone from the forum. Anyway, nice work on the croaker.

It was nice meeting you on Saturday. I'm glad you got into the fish.

We rested for an hour and paddled back out to see if we could get back on the fish. It was slower the second round but we managed several more before heading back in around 4:00 PM.

All fish we caught on jigs were by way of some Bassin assassin looking gulp bait. I'm not sure of the name but it was White and chart and around 4" long.

      The weather was perfect.

Good job, guys. Maybe a far south run would have been better than all the freshwater up this way. Gonna be down that way next weekend for the June M&G. Hope to see a bunch of you guys...!

It was a great day for fishing that's for sure. I hope next Saturday is just as good for the meet and greet.

The croaker was fantastic on the grill Sunday night.

Oh and thanks for getting me hooked up with this forum, it is great.

            See you on the water.

Hey Jim, glad you're on line here. BTW, sorry for the brain fart on the water. Good thing it didn't mess you up catchin' the fish.

Never tried it on the grill, but now I'm going to try grilled croaker.

I recomend soaking Croaker in Zesty Italin Dressing for 30 to 60 minutes then put in fish basket and grill till done. I filet all of my fish but that's only because my family always filet all the fish we caught when I was a kid.

For fish that size, though, I usually just gut it and put slits on the side for a bake or pan fry. Your Italian sounds mmmmmm... good. Gotta try it.

                    Go Fairfax.
