  • No rod, one speck

at the Outer Banks with the family and based on weather forecasts left the yak and surf gear at home. We were down playing in the sand with the grand kids when I looked to my left and saw a fish flopping in the surf edge. I ran towards it when a wave washed over it and I was sure it was gone. When the wave pulled back the fish was still there, a nice 8" speck. After admiring it and letting the grand kids ooh and ahh over it I let it go and away it swam. No rod, no problem.

Jim, thanks so much for the offer. Kind of like an addict I'm trying to go a week without fishing just to prove I have control over it (and realizing that I really don't). I'm in Kitty Hawk through Sunday and today looks like you'd need 8 oz or so to hold the surf. Hope you catch a few.

Today was take the family to the aquarium and stay indoors day. I might try and take my nephew to Avalon pier in the morning. We'll have to see... Uncle Jimmy has been driven to drink already today.
