  • scupper repair

    Hey all,
I was hoping that I could get some good feedback on how to repair a leaky supper on my tarpon 120.
I have developed a "small" crack where the scupper tube joins the top side of the tankwell. It is letting in water and after a couple hours of paddling, I have about a liter of water in the hull. Is this something that I can tackle? What procedure/products do you recommend? Thoughts welcomed.

For a quick fix to get you back on the water use some duct seal like this 0 http://www.amazon.com/Gardner-Bender.../dp/B000BO8XD6

As for permanent repair, I would try to track down some of the same plastic as your boat. A lot of dealers will have plastic scraps around that they'll give you for free. I have some orange from my rod pod if you can't find any. The repair involves heating your kayak and the scrap up with a heat gun and working the new plastic into the area to fill the gap. I had to patch the keel on my redfish when I got it, but it wasn't too difficult. Just take it slow. There are some youtube videos that might help you with this. Or, see how much a dealer would charge.

Not sure where you're located, but the owner of Annapolis Canoe and Kayak uses a plastic welder that can apparently work wonders for their shop repairs. The owner was getting ready to take a Tarpon with a 2" hole to the guy to get it repaired.

        all done

        All,
Thank you for the replies. I made the repair this weekend and all appears to be well. I used a heat gun (poor man's plastic welder) and foil tape to isolate the repair area. The haul is bone dry now and I am keeping my fingers crossed.

        Happy hunting
