Well, after not fishing since August…don’t ask…I’m dusting off the Snaggedline Hobie and getting ready for spring because the Cows will be migrating into the bay real soon. Well, maybe not as soon as other years if it doesn’t stop snowing already! I’ll be working on a Braggin’ Rights Tournament for this spring, so check back soon for updates.

Count My Fish
Since Jan. 1, 2010, Maryland Anglers, along with most States on the Coast need to register with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) before fishing this year. Anglers can register for free online at www.countmyfish.noaa.gov
It is said that this will allow for accurate information and condition of fish stocks, to then be used to determine appropriate regulations. Since it’s run by .gov, I doubt it will be used in an effective and efficient manner. Check out the forum for more discussion on this topic.

Stupid Spot
For some reason, bait size spot are harder to catch than keeper rockfish. It’s funny, last year, I complained the all the spot were too small and I wanted larger ones. This spot is begging me not to feed him to stripes…this one got lucky and ended up swimming away freely.

mycobacteriosis
Poor Rockfish. The Chespeake Bay stock of schoolie rockfish is currently plagued by mycobacteriosis, a bacterial disease that occurs among striped bass, and now, other fish as well. This year, I haven’t caught as many stripers with sores as last year, but it’s obviously still a great concern. The otherside of the fish pictured was even worse. Here is some more info on Myco from the Maryland DNR website.

Sandy Point State Park
Mike and I fished Sandy Point in what started like a glass pond, quickly turned into some pretty rough conditions! I’ll tell you one thing, if I werent in a Hobie, I dont think I could have been fishing towards the end of our day. The current was ripping through with some crazy chop. Poor Spots
Saturday, 6.27.09, my opening day of live lining for Rockfish. Didn’t turn out to be a great opener considering I forgot to charge the battery for my livewell and radio, had my line snap on my first cast, and then not take any more pictures b/c I was mad at my line. I’d still do it again though…

Dinks for me, dinner for Mike.
Mike and I hit up the bay bridge once again on Sunday May 9th. Seems like the big rock’s are really thining out from the boat chatter we were listening to. non the less, we’ll keep trying. GS picked up some of those new parachutes from alltackle that have the mylar in the skirts and we gave them a whirl trolling. GS trolled them in tandem and i did one solo and a a lighter non mylar tandem rig. my mylar didnt get any hits, while the trusty tandem got 3 dinks from 17-20″. It did pay off for GS as he landed a nice clean 34″. The last 2 hours we were out, the tide was ripping out..sure did get me tired…lol
Good times.
